Group Exhibition: Longing for Truth

Longing for Truth

Online Group Exhibition

August 21st - September 18th 2020

Blxck Studios proudly presents Longing for Truth, an online group show inspired by an era of increasingly elusive verity.

In a world of endless information at our fingertips, truth and lies blend together creating convoluted stories that challenge our belief systems. To combat this inevitable aspect of our society, artists offer forms of insightful reality, creating works of cathartic expression, reflecting the personal and societal truths present in our lives. "Longing for Truth" is a group show dedicated to getting to the heart of issues which tap into the innate feelings and root emotions that connects humanity.

"Longing for Truth" by Alex Dakos (2020)

My artwork seeks to explore an alter universe of living dreams, that lead you to a realm unusual to our reality. Where obscured laws of nature play and anything is possible. This is where my spontaneous visuals of new morphed creatures dwell and interact with your inner child’s imagination.
My process is unique in transforming the extra-fine details found in nature, into the hyper-detailed cross-stipple line style I use. I work traditionally with graphite, ink, and oil paints; on paper, clay board, or wood panel. My subject matter touches on the relationship between all living things while illustrating the frailty of life and our impending mortality. Essentially a hybrid of nature and pop surrealism, with dark religious undertones and a dash of moody urban graffiti vibes.
So I encourage all to take a deeper look into the details found within and let your inner child imagine out loud!

"September" by Cat Schappach
September, which is also my birth month, sums up the spirit of the autumn to me, the changing of seasons, the alchemy in the changes the earth goes through when the leaves die and  winter is eminent.  I identify with black birds and snakes  and often they work their way into my compositions.

"Revelations of the Unseen Madonna" by Leonard Schellauf
Revelations of the Unseen Madonna is the first of a three-card spread called “Unveil”. She represents the beginning of a new, unknown path – a spiritual journey. It is not yet clear what it will be like or where it will lead to.
Visit our gallery to see the "Unveil" series.

"Brain Malfunction" by Kirsten Schaap
Kirsten's artwork is about introspection, darkness, contrast and raw emotion. Fear, loss and decay are recurring themes within her work. She works in black and white and every piece she creates is drawn by hand and stippled. This stippling technique enables her to bring depth, texture and layers into her art.

"Truth" by Alexandria Whatley

The truth is not always clear and concise. We live in a world of saturated information that is ceaselessly growing and changing much like the camouflaged skin of a chameleon. As conscious beings it is our responsibility to closely examine the world around us and use careful discernment to uncover the truth. We all live, experience and share our own truths – whatever they may be – and what separates us from other living creatures on the planet is our ability to create, share and inspire others with these truths.

It is my belief that art is a visual representation of history and as artists, it is our duty to record the history of our time. I hope that by sharing my artwork, it inspires you to search out and discover your own truth and share it with the world.
